Couples / Relationship Therapy

Prior to your first session, you can expect an introductory phone call and to complete a pre-session questionnaire.

Modality Used: Gottman Couples Therapy. More about this therapy approach can be found at The Gottman Method – About | The Gottman Institute.

The Assessment Phase is a major commitment by the couple. It involves (1) both partners completing the pre-session questionnaires; (2) completing a 50 min couple session; (3) each partner completing a 50 min individual session, and (4) both couples attending a feedback session which provides them an outline of the assessment findings and a proposed way forward to address the issues highlighted by the assessment. This assessment phase is best done in a sequential block of time (for example, activities 1 to 4 back to back during a forenoon or afternoon). However, it can also be done over a few days/weeks depending on availability.

The Intervention phase is a commitment by both partners to learn about, practice, and to implementing Gottman’s evidence-based strategies. The length of time in this phase depends on many factors. The frequency of sessions may vary depending on the complexity of the issues and the client’s/clinician’s availability.
